MessageSave Frequently Asked Questions

Installation and Compatibility

What operating systems are supported?
MessageSave for Outlook runs on Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 with the latest Service Pack.

What versions of Outlook are supported?
MessageSave for Outlook works with Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2007. Be sure to install the latest Office Service Pack. MessageSave does NOT work with Outlook Express.

I don't see any new buttons on the Outlook toolbar after installing MessageSave. Why?
Restart Outlook. Make sure you shutdown Outlook completely during the restart. (Use the task manager to verify that Outlook is not running).

MessageSave Outlook toolbar button is usually located on the far right of the toolbar. Sometimes the Outlook window is not wide enough to show all icons. Try maximizing the Outlook window, or click on the little right arrow to the right of the toolbar.

In Outlook 2007, if the above does not help, please open "Tools->Trust Center->Addins". If "Apply macro security settings to installed add-ins" is checked, uncheck it and restart Outlook.

MessageSave has disappeared from my outlook. How do I get it back?
Please check the following location:
Outlook 2007:Help -> About Microsoft Outlook -> Disabled Items
Outlook 2003 or earlier: Help -> About Microsoft Outlook -> Disabled Items
If you see MessageSave on that list, select it and click Enable. Then restart Outlook.

In Outlook 2007, if the above does not help, please open "Tools->Trust Center->Addins". If "Apply macro security settings to installed add-ins" is checked, uncheck it and restart Outlook.

I am a licensed user. How do I get updates?
You can download the latest update for which you are eligible from this page.

Outlook displays DLL errors about MessageSave
Are you seeing any of the following error messages
"The add-in "c:\Program Files\TechHit.com\MessageSave\messagesave.dll" could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the Help Menu."
or
The Add-in "MessageSave" (c:\Program Files\TechHit.com\MessageSave\messagesave.dll) cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook. Please contact the Add-in manufacturer for an updated. If no update is available, please uninstall the Add-in. Out of memory or system resources. Close some window or programs and try again.?

This is a very misleading message. Do not run Detect and Repair. Please download the latest version, it has a workaround for this Outlook issue.

Yes, by default, the entire message, including all attachments are saved in the msg file.

Can MessageSave copy destination folder path to the clipboard after saving messages?
Yes, it can. In fact, this can be a quick timesaver for cases when you need to notify your coworkers about saved messages. To enable this option, create the following registry value and set it to 1 (DWORD). Note that this option is also available via MessageSave centralized admin facilities.
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechHit.com\MessageSave\Options
Value: CDPC (DWORD)

Can I use environment variables in the destination folder path?
When you use MessageSave centralized administration facilities to configure end-user workstations, in some cases it is useful to define destination folder locations specific to each user. In this case, you can use environment variables, such as %USERPROFILE%, in the value "Default directory for saving messages".

If you are using a Microsoft Exchange server and you receive an email from somebody on the same Exchange server, his/her email will not be appended to the file name.

How can MessageSave help me migrate email messages, Contacts and Calendar to Mac Apple Mail or Entourage?
MessageSave can export your email messages, Contacts and Calendar in a format which can be imported into Aplle Mail, Entourage and other email clients. Yes, it can.

I created a rule with MessageSave custom action, but it doesn't work. Why?
There are several potential causes for the problem:

How do I import an MBOX file into Mac Enoutrage?
To import an mbox file into Entourage, simply drag and drop it onto the Entourage Inbox (in the Entourage folder list). After that, you should see a small triangle to the left of the Inbox. Click on it to display the newly imported folder(s).

After importing MBOX file into Entourage, timestamps are showing the import time, not message time.
Entourage has two timestamps columns - Received and Sent. The Received column displays the time of import. The Sent column displays the actual message time. You can enable the Sent column via the View menu.

Why do I not see MBOX option in the Format drop-down?
You must be running Outlook 2000. The MBOX option is only available when MessageSave is used with Outlook 2002 or newer.

My version of Outlook 97 does not have Rules Wizard. Why?
Rules Wizard is not bundled with Outlook 97. Microsoft provides it as a separate download.
