Do TechHit products work with the "New Outlook"?

Why don't TechHit products work with the "New Outlook" at this time?

The new Outlook is not a new version of Outlook. Despite the name, it is a completely different application. Classic add-ins, such as ours, run inside desktop Outlook with deep access to it. That is what makes things like one click/keystroke filing and tight folder integration possible. For the new Outlook, Microsoft chose not to carry those capabilities over. New add-ins get a small, restricted API surface that does not yet cover much of what our products need to work the way they do today. To add to the challenge, the platform is still evolving - a moving target.

When will TechHit products work with the "New Outlook"?

Unfortunately, we are not currently prepared to officially announce our plans for the "new Outlook" support. At the time of this writing, Microsoft is expected to continue to support the classic Outlook until at least 2029.

Can I run both New and Classic Outlook at the same time?

Yes. If you want to try the "New Outlook" features, you can run both versions side by side and keep using TechHit products in classic Outlook.

  1. Click the Windows Start button.
  2. Type Outlook.
  3. You will see two entries: "Outlook (new)" and "Outlook (classic)". Click the one you want to open.

Tip: to keep classic Outlook one click away, right-click "Outlook (classic)" in the Start menu results and choose "Pin to taskbar".

How to install classic Outlook

Classic Outlook is part of the Microsoft 365 / Office desktop apps, so you need a Microsoft 365 subscription or an Office license. To install it:

  1. Go to the Microsoft 365 apps page and log.
  2. Click "Install apps" then "Microsoft 365 apps" in the upper-right corner of the page.
  3. Click "Install Office" under "Office apps & devices".
  4. Download and run the Office installer.
  5. Reboot your computer after the installation is finished.

How do I make classic Outlook the default?

If Outlook keeps opening the "New Outlook", switch back like this:

  1. In the "New Outlook", turn off the "New Outlook" toggle in the upper-right corner. Classic Outlook opens.
  2. To stop the "New Outlook" prompt from coming back, follow Microsoft's instructions for turning off the new Outlook.
