What is new in SimplyTag v3


Welcome to SimplyTag v3.

We have added loads of new features and enhancements, many of them at the request of customers like you!

Read on to learn how version 3 makes the product, on which you have come to rely for tagging, categorizing and organizing Outlook email messages, even more powerful.

New icons

The first thing you will notice about the new version is the updated button icons, which look great on the modern high-resolution monitors and fit nicely with the rest of the Outlook UI.

However, that is just the icing on the new version cake. Read on for the rest of the great features we have prepared for you.

Official support for Outlook 2019

Version 3 now officially supports Outlook 2019. Office 365 is also fully supported with the desktop version of Outlook.

Discontinued support for Outlook 2007

Outlook 2007 is no longer supported.

Up to 9 One-Click-Tag Buttons

Version 2 and older showed three One-Click-Tag buttons. Starting with version 3, you can show up to nine. The number can be configured on link the UI tab of the Options window.

And if you prefer to operate mostly with the keyboard, the QuickTag Window is still the fastest option for you.

Apply AutoTag Button

If you used SimplyTag v2, you know how useful AutoTagging can be. It tags incoming Outlook email messages without you having to lift a finger. In version 3, we have introduced an Apply AutoTag button, which can manually apply the tags AutoTag would have applied. For example, you can use it to tag older messages which arrived before you started using AutoTag.

Apply AutoMove Button

If you turn off AutoTag Apply MoveToFolder Actions, so that all incoming messages stay in the Inbox, you can use the Apply Move button to apply the Move To Folder action retroactively.

Copy and Paste Tags Buttons

The Copy Tags and Paste Tags buttons make it easy to copy tags between messages in your mailbox.

Tag Sharing

We have introduced a way to share categories and tags with your colleagues.

Export / Import Outlook Categories

We have introduced Export and Import Categories commands.

You can use it to share categories with your colleagues (or even to back up your own tags). The Ultimate edition supports auto-import, so your colleagues do not have to do anything to keep up to date with shared tags.

Bulk Manage Tags

The Bulk Manage Categories window supports bulk managing Outlook categories. Create or delete multiple tags in one operation.

Send Tags With Messages

When sending messages, send along the tags you have applied to this message. Message recipients can auto-apply this tags when they receive your email, if they enable Apply tags received with the incoming messages Use this feature to help your colleagues keep their mailboxes as organized as you do!

Improved QuickTag typeahead filtering

Starting in v3, the QuickTag supports the same flexible typeahead filtering as QuickPick in our best-selling SimplyFile product. You can type multiple space-separated word fragments to zoom in on the right category with just a few keystrokes.

Select Mailbox in the Create Tag Window

Previous version would always create tags in your default mailbox. In v3, you can select the mailbox in which the new tags should be created.

Preserve Categories for TaskIt and ScheduleIt

New option to copy tags from the original message for TaskIt and ScheduleIt commands.

Do not suggest Tag Option

New option to not show a tag on one-click-tag buttons.

Undo Tooltip

The Undo button now shows a tooltip with the message subject, tags and folder name (if any) applied during the last operation.

Window position and size

We have improved the logic to remember the previous position, size and column widths of the QuickTag and Manage Categories windows. Next time you open a window, it will be displayed in the same position as before.

Improved support for different monitor resolutions

The window position and size logic, described above, works correctly even if you move between environments with different monitor resolutions or different number of monitors.

Other enhancements and fixes

Version 3 includes many other small improvements and fixes, which further increase product usability, performance and reliability.

License management portal

Over the last several years, we have received feedback from many of you that you would like us to improve license management and administration. We are introducing a license management portal where you can keep track of your license usage and deactivate installation when you need to move a license to another computer. When creating an account, use the same email address you used when you placed an order.

Subscription licensing model

Starting with version 3, we are switching to a subscription licensing model.

Installing v3

If you do not have v2 installed, simply run the v3 installer.

If you have v2 installed:

  • If you installed v2 using an MSI installer and are using an MSI installer for v3 and you are not changing “bitness” (32 vs 64 bit), you do not need to uninstall v2. Be sure to select the right MSI installer based your Outlook bitness.
  • Otherwise, please uninstall v2 before installing v3.
